|Begun by the members of First United
Methodist Church in the 1960's, the Lord's Cupboard continues as an
ecumenical project of the Fort Dodge community serving individual and
families in need of assistance. Canned goods, paper, personal products,
small quantities of meat and dairy products, bread, potatoes, and baby
needs are a part of the inventory maintained by the organization.
Support comes from local churches, food drives, the Food Bank of Iowa, as well as individual and corporate financial contributions for the purchase of perishable items and other supplies not provided through material donations.
Referrals to the Lord's Cupboard are made exclusively through Upper Des Moines Opportunities. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, please call the church office or Upper Des Moines Opportunities for additional information.
In the first five months of 2011, 962 families have been served. This is a 20% increase from the same period in 2010 and represents 2,054 individuals in need. Led by Holly Scherff, many volunteers from throughout the community come to serve in this important community service. If you would be interested in volunteering or assisting the Lord's Cupboard in any way, please call the church office for more details on how you can help.
