First United Methodist Church members are active participants in Habitat for Humanity International. We send volunteer labor to work on sites in Webster County as well as providing approximately $1 per member ($1000) from the annual budget and various fundraisers during the year. It is considered a "Covenant" Church with the Habitat project as it pledges support through prayer, resources and volunteer labor. What is Habitat? Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide by making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. The Webster County Habitat for Humanity has built six homes since its founding in this area. Currently its active project is the construction of a home in the Webster County town of Barnum. How does Habitat work? First United Methodists together with members from other denominations in the area work together to build or rehabilitate simple, decent houses with the help of partner families. Completed houses are then sold to the partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no interest loans. The homeowner's monthly mortgage payments are then recycled into a revolving fund that is used to build more houses. You are invited to learn more of the work of Habitat for Humanity and to support this active ministry by volunteering your time or contributing to its financial needs. For further information, please contact our church office at 515.576.7586 or E-mail. You will be directed to those involved in this most worthwhile ministry. Watch our News of the Congregation page to learn of specific times and dates for work projects for the Habitat for Humanity program. United Methodist Women -
